Every fashion professional will tell you the business side of the industry is just as important as what’s on the runway.
They’ll also tell you accessing the business resources necessary to develop a successful fashion company is one of the biggest challenges you’ll face.
Which is why Startup Fashion Week was born.
Now in its second year, SFW connects Canada’s fashion professionals with the people, brands, and knowledge necessary to take their business to the next level (or just the next catwalk). Attendees will take in five days of exclusive conferences, mentorship, and networking opportunities designed to give aspiring fashion entrepreneurs advice on how to spend their precious time and money.
Consider it like a live version of the rolodex Alexander Wang wished he had when he was just starting his career.
Here’s what you’ll be taking in:
Day 1: Monday, October 5, 8:30pm – 11:30pm: Opening Party at Nest (423 College Street).
Start with the media launch party for media personnel only followed by an opening party that is open to the public. The event is presented by Futurpreneur Canada and in support of Brands For Canada. Attendees will meet some of the participants and sponsors, and dance to music of DJ Greedo from Del Vinyl. Media kits will also be available for pickup.
Day 2: Tuesday, October 6, 8:30am – 5:30pm: Business of Fashion Conference at BrightLane Inc. (545 King Street West)
Day 3: Wednesday, October 7, 6:30pm – 10:30pm: Fashion Career Forum at Aird & Berlis LLP (181 Bay Street, Suite 1800, Brookfield Place)
Day 4: Thursday, October 8, 6:30pm – 10:30pm: Fashion Tech Forum at Telus (25 York Street)
Day 5: Friday, October 9, 7:00pm – 11:00pm: Future of Fashion Runway Show/Closing Party at Telus (25 York Street)
The keynote speaker for the Business of Fashion Conference is Linda Lundstrom and the runway will present collections from Amanda Maria, She Native, Maison CYMA, Wear Your Label and Pepper Couture. There will also be a wearable tech showcase including Ear-O-Smart, MUSE, Daniel Christian Tang and a special presentation from Peace Collective.
If you haven’t already bought your tickets you should do so NOW before they sell out. Because they absolutely will.
(Oh, and try to remember us when you’re famous.)
