Y2K Princesses
This costume trend will be very on theme this year thanks to gen z cancelling skinny jeans and side parts. I predict this will be the trendiest costume! To separate yourself from the herd, the key is in the details. You want to get into a character but still throw your own twist to it. Perhaps your whole group could dress up as Britney, whether it’s schoolgirl Britney, Oops I Did It Again, I’m a Slave 4 U, Circus, Lucky or Toxic, the options are truly endless with online shopping.
Obviously, the easiest is school girl Britney, throw on a plaid pleated skirt, knee-high socks, a cardigan and you are good to go. The key to my personal favourite, Oops I Did It Again Britney (which happened to be my 2018 costume), is finding a good red latex outfit and a headset. The accessories are key for Oops Britney or else you will get confused as a devil…and you are so much more creative than that. Circus Britney and Toxic Britney are easy enough, you can just order a circus or stewardess costume.
If Britney isn’t your queen B (sorry can’t relate), you can dress up as Destiny’s Child, Beyonce, JLo, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie, or even Lizzie Mcguire! The secret to nailing these looks are in the accessories.
Scooby Doo Gang
This is a great costume option for both guys and girls! Daphne is easy enough, just snag a cute purple dress, gogo boots and a green scarf! Velma wears a cute orange outfit, so you could go with sexy Velma in her latex orange suit or classic good girl Velma with her orange turtleneck.
Josie and the Pussy Cats
The key here is leopard print and ears. There is a lot of creative freedom with this outfit I would concentrate most on leopard print with an early 2000s look to it and blue eye shadow with the flipped hair do.
Mean Girls
2 blondes, a brunette and a redhead walk into a bar. The classic girl group costume, however there a few ways to do this costume!
1) Red Latex Santa Outfits at The Talent Show: this is arguably the easiest mean girl look to achieve.
2) Mean Girls on Halloween look: Regina as the bunny, Gretchen as the black latex cat, Karen as the sexy babydoll mouse, Cady as the scary “ex-wife” corpse bride look.
3) Classic Mean Girls: This look will be all about the accessories. Regina has 2 options the “little bit dramatic” shirt with a black leather skirt or the white tank top cut with the holes and her purple bra showing through. Gretchen with the pink sweater and brown plaid skirt and Karen with her pretty and pink top and matching skirt. Cady has 2 options as well with the oversized pink Lacoste shirt she borrowed from Damian for her first Wednesday, or my personal favourite, her blue Juicy Couture sweater with a C initial necklace and blue pleated plaid skirt.
Disney
This is the easiest theme for any group to jump onboard with last minute because the options are endless! Disney princesses are for every hair colour and side kicks…and don’t forget about the sexy villains! This is also a great way for couples to still have a “couple costume” and be a part of the main group costume.
Powerpuff Girls
Another classic costume for a brunette, redhead and blonde, trio! This is a pretty easy DIY costume, all you need is the coloured crop top and matching coloured flared skirt and you are good to go!
Harry Potter Clique
This is a great costume for a “guys girl” and Hermione is what Princess Leia was to generation X. This nerd guy fantasy is explained best in the Friends episode, “The one with the Princess Leia fantasy. Rachel is confiding in Phoebe about dressing up as Princess Leia for Ross. Phoebe states, “Oh yeah Princess Leia and the gold bikini, every guy our age loved that”. What Princess Leia was to generation X is what Hermione in Prisoner of Azkaban is to millennials. It is the ultimate cool hot girl fantasy look and it is also an easy costume because almost every store sells the “sexy Hermione” costume.
Victoria’s Secret Angels
To quote the iconic Cady Heron “In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up and beg for candy. But in girl world, Halloween is the one time of year a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girl can say anything about it.”

Romcom Themed Sweethearts
Think Legally Blonde and 13 going on 30! Elle Woods is easy enough, you can wear her pink bunny costume (from the costume party…that wasn’t actually a costume party), her pink dress in the “I want to go to Harvard” video, her iconic first day of school green get up with the glasses, or the glitter pink bikini and pink fur jacket.
13 going on 30 is also easy, just focus on the iconic multi-coloured dress with the butterfly necklace or the simple lace nightgown she wears when she still thinks she’s 13. Other romcom options are the Cinderella Story, specifically the epic Cinderella dress. The “hooker” outfit in Pretty Woman with the boots and blonde bob wig, or the elegant classy red dress. If you are really aiming for elegance…you can’t go wrong with the yellow open criss-cross back gown that Andie Anderson wore in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Hocus Pocus Witches
A fun group twist to a classic costume. This costume is last minute creativity gold!
Spice Girls
The original baddie group, this is a great costume that you can probably find with a few online shops and a deep look in your closet.
Baby Spice is easy enough. Ideally, wear blue, pink or white with dress high knee socks and the white chunky running shoes. Ginger must have the British flag included somewhere in her costume, such as the British flag dress, but if not, then a skirt, top, or shorts that have this pattern is a must for the Ginger Spice costume.
Posh Spice needs the little black dress and some strappy shoes, while Scary needs to be rocking leopard print. And don’t forget about the Adidas sportswear for Sporty Spice, then you are good to go! The biggest problem with this group costume is that your friends are going to fight over who gets to be Baby or Posh Spice.
Charlie’s Angels
Another classic redhead, blonde and brunette trio. Bonus points if you have a guy that can be Charlie!
Barbie Dolls
Think the Jessica Alba group look in “Never Been Kissed.” Jessica Alba’s character was a “Disco Barbie.” Her other 2 friends were “Evening Gown Barbie” and “Malibu Beach Barbie.”
Sex and The City Ladies
With Sex and The City coming back, this trend will be on fire! Carrie would have to be the most on point, so you must get the “Carrie” necklace. A few Carrie outfit options would be the classic the tank top and tutu, the newspaper dress (I may or may not already own this…), the “naked dress” which is a nude dress paired with a fur coat, or her Hamptons look, which includes a tube top with a low cut red/orange black stripe long skirt and a red cowboy hat.
Charlotte would need to be a preppy princess, possibly a headband, plaid print, or Lily Pulitzer print involved. Miranda would need to be corporate sexy, a “I just came from the office but I am still hot” kind of look.
Samantha would have to scream “fabulous but I am not even trying because I look like this every day” vibe.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer and a Vampire
Since Y2K has made a comeback, the Buffy look will be on point for Halloween this year! Buffy is quite a fashionista herself so there are 2 options for this look. For preppy and cute Buffy, think leather mini skirts paired with matching cardigan sets and knee high boots. Or classic vampire slayer Buffy with a black top and red pants. Bonus points for a blonde boy playing Spike!
Austin Powers
Groovy Baby! There are lots of options with this theme. You could dress up as a sexy fembot or as one of Austin’s sexy ladies: Foxy Cleopatra, Vanessa Kensington (aka the beautiful Elizabeth Hurley) or Heather Graham’s stylish character, Felicity Shagwell. There is also the harajuku girls!
Clueless
The Cher and Dionne bestie look is a 90’s classic that you can never go wrong with! The most iconic look is the matching plaid pleated skirt ensemble. But honestly, there are a lot of cute classic Clueless looks! The red dress Cher wears when she is “at gunpoint” paired with a white boa on the cover of the movie poster. Cher’s teal plaid skirt and matching cardigan with the white fur trimmings and the little white Calvin Klein dress are all statement looks!
For Dionne, there’ her red burgundy dress with the white collar and white knee high socks, her blue polo and blue and white plaid skirt, or my personal favourite, the blue top paired with the orange pleather mini skirt. You really can not go wrong with this theme!
