Homer St. Cafe: Noteworthy New Spot For Brunch in Vancouver

Despite the rather soggy and stormy weather, we pried ourselves away from the comforts of home and happily made our way down to 898 Homer Street to taste test our way through a portion of the hot spot’s latest AM offerings.

As it turned out, we weren’t the only ones looking forward to this tasty preview event as we were joined by a number of the city’s top-notch foodie critics and culinary afecionados for a sneak peek (and taste) of their soon-to-launch brunch menu.

Since Homer St. Cafe opened earlier this summer, it has been buzzing on the radar around town. With a multi-tiered dining area, full-fledge lounge, bar, patio and private dining room, they’ve everything notably covered.

We love the fresh, clean and comfortable take on decor. Bright colours meld well with classic Parisian design accents, polished brass and homey touches (such as stacks of well-worn cookbooks throughout). Homer St. Cafe is, simply put, inviting and cozy… all the more reason to order that second Caesar.

Brunch service got underway as our server kindly gave us the full rundown of what to expect of their newest menu. Cocktails were ordered (we seriously lamented over getting their signature Port of Mumbai cocktail or the Casear with chicken-infused vodka). Alas, Mumbai and Mimosas won.

First item ordered? We just had to try the Nutella and Banana Monte Cristo, because why wouldn’t you? Neatly sliced and freshly fried, this delicious gem arrived to our table stuffed with chocolatey goodness (oh, and bananas too).

Post-indlugence, we moved on to proper brunch fixings, though struggled (again) to choose. The baked steelhead trout served with beef brisket and poached eggs will have to wait for our next trip. As will the pork and hazelnut terrine with apple mustard and pickled vegetables.

We opted to go with the Eggs Benedict (with a healthy portion of bacon and roasted baby Roma tomatoes) as well as the Gruyere and Kale Omelette.
