motionball is a remarkable force that’s responsible for not only raising awareness about Special Olympics, but also finding the next generation of donors and sponsors. To date, the Calgary chapter has raised $252,000 for the cause. For those of you who weren’t in attendance, the motionball Gala that took place earlier this year was a fun-filled evening with a host bar and performances by the dance group ILLFX and the sensational DJ Skratch Bastid. Young Professionals spent the night dancing, mingling and getting to know some of the incredible athletes that participate in the Special Olympics.
The second motionball event of the year is happening in just a few weeks, and this time participants will be trading in their suits and stilettos for hockey sticks and beach volleyballs. 250 young professionals will take over Webber Academy on June 7th for the 6th annual Marathon of Sport, which involves 26 teams competing in nine different games.
Each of the 26 teams will be paired with one Special Olympian as they rotate through games of basketball, bench ball, flag football, floor hockey, bocce, ultimate Frisbee, beach volleyball and soccer. While you and your friends are having a great time on the field or on the court, you’re also helping raise money and celebrate the athletes that you’ll be playing alongside.
We should also mention that everyone who shows up will be treated to a light breakfast, lunch and receive some cool swag to take home. Once all the activities have wrapped for the day, the fun still isn’t over; there will be an after-party taking place on-site, so stick around to celebrate with your teammates and new colleagues.
Even if sports aren’t really your thing, the motionball team is still on the lookout for fabulous volunteers who want to come and have some fun while assisting with the coordination of the day.
