Healthy Resto Options in Montreal

We’re sure most of you (just like us) have overindulged over the holiday season.  From holiday parties to Christmas dinner and lots of drinking to holiday treats, many of us are starting off 2012 wanting to eat healthy and knock off a few pounds. Many of our favorite hot and trendy restaurants in Montreal offer healthy options so that you can continue to socialize and eat out. Here are some suggestions for low calorie and fat dishes at some of our favourite restaurants…

Liverpool House
Liverpool House is a staple on our top restaurants list, and the fact that it specializes in healthy cuisine is just an added bonus. This resto prepares a handful of excellent low-calorie dishes that are both delicious and beneficial for your health. Start off with oysters and skip the wine; choose a vodka soda if you prefer an alcoholic beverage. Share the winter vegetable salad, a mound of fresh greens highlighted by roasted squash and walnuts and pick their fish of the week, a market fresh selection prepared in traditional French cuisine style.

Kazu
This is our favorite Isakaya in the city and one we have mentioned a few times in past posts. This ‘hole in the wall’ spot offers healthy options that won’t have you leaving the restaurant feeling like you overate, even if you did. Start the night off with their edamame or tofu salad, and then choose the Salmon and Tuna Sushi rice bow (which essentially is just raw tuna and sushi, pickled vegetables and steamed rice). It doesn’t get more rewarding than that.

Ye Old Orchard Monkland
If it is the pub vibe you are looking for, don’t fret, Ye Old Orchard on Monkland, offers up relatively healthy gastro pub fare that you won’t find in most other related establishments. Their chicken salad sandwich is one of our favourite menu items which, when ordered with a surprisingly low-calorie pint of Guinness, will have you feeling better about a trip to the pub than ever before.

Bremner
Bremner, the sister restaurant of Garde Manger headed by celebrity chef Chuck Hughes, focuses more on sea food and small plates rather than heavy local fare. The best part about this restaurant for the health conscious is that it always has the freshest oysters along with a jam-packed raw bar. From scallops to lobster, shrimp to clams, you can fill up on fresh seafood and order a salad of the week on the side.
