Have You Jumped on the Coconut Craze?

We are all familiar with the coconut water craze, but lately celebrities, health fanatics and fashionistas can’t stop talking about the benefits and other uses of the “tree of life.” This 2,000-year-old Indian remedy palm has become the base of the hottest new beauty and lifestyle trends. Gwyneth Paltrow swears by coconut oil as a moisturizer, mouthwash and as a cooking substitute. Minnie Driver claims it is the ultimate hair conditioner, and athletes are swapping sports drinks with coconut water for its high potassium and mineral content. We’ve unlocked the reasons why everyone seems to be going crazy for coconuts.

1. Teeth
Originally used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat oral pain, health and detoxification, oil pulling is the practice of swishing coconut oil (or ingestible oil) in the mouth for 20 minutes once a day. Oil pulling reduces the two major bacterial causes of cavities and also reduces levels of yeast, which helps with bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, headaches and even depression.

Other benefits of swishing include brightening of skin, ending hangovers (we’re sold) and brightening your smile.

2. Skin
Natives have been using coconut oil on their skin as they believe it protects from the sun’s harmful rays. This natural oil has no chemical additives and makes skin feel smooth to the touch. It has been known to combat many skin conditions, such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema, acts as an exfoliate agent along with salts or sugars, and is also a great lip moisturizer and makeup remover.

The saturated fats in coconut oil help to retain the moisture content of skin as the fats eliminate any moisture loss. When the fats are ingested, the fat deposits under the skin, keeping it smooth, even and healthy looking.

Coconut oil also contains vitamin E, which is well known for healthy skin growth, skin repair and wrinkle prevention.

The protein-rich oil keeps skin healthy and rejuvenated inside and out. A strong flow of proteins repairs tissues, cellular health and replaces damaged cells like scars and skin cracking.

3. Body
There are numerous naturally-occurring health benefits from coconut tree products including weight loss, obesity prevention (aids in speeding up metabolism), improving heart health and providing an impressive 61% dietary fiber. Coconut has been known to reduce sweet cravings, improve digestion and can provide your body with a quick energy boost.

This no trans-fat, gluten-free, non-toxic, hypoallergenic food contains antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-parasitic healing properties. It also tastes and smells marvelous. We are convinced to join in on the coconut craze. Are you?
