Have Racy Red Carpet Looks Gone Too Far?

The Toronto International Film Festival goes hand-in-hand with the red carpet and though many women this summer have been opting for an old Hollywood, classically conservative look at their red carpet events, some have chosen to bare all.

Rihanna walked the CFDA Awards red carpet in NYC on June 2 wearing a nearly nude gown by Adam Selman. Many of her fans thought she went too far in her totally see-through, sparkly dress.

On August 24th, Amber Rose arrived at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards in a silver dress by Laurel DeWitt. Many people applauded her confidence in wearing strands of chains that barely covered her.

Kim Kardashian attended the GQ Awards on September 2nd wearing a plunging PVC bustier by Atsuko Kudo with a see-through, metallic Ralph & Russo skirt that was slashed to mid-thigh. The newly dubbed fashionista’s red carpet ensemble caused a stir, with observers calling her red carpet look tacky, tasteless and cheap.

We’re all used to celebrities pushing fashion boundaries, but some women seem to be pushing them a little too far lately. Are we now so immune to the notion of “sex sells” that women need to use their bodies even on the red carpet to turn heads, sell records or promote movies?
