Harry Rosen Spring 2012 Preview

Harry Rosen got us excited for spring and its accompanying prospect of well-dressed young professional males all around town with their fresh spring 2012 lineup. This season, it’s all about colour, comfort and exquisite collections. Highlights include bohemian blends, soft jackets, French flair and tuxedo styling in a versatile collection seemingly designed for the typical YP male whose summer will surely bring garden parties, boating, weddings and travel.

Bohemian Blends this season provide a fresh spin on street wear, with soft-washed items, light layering, colourful prints in shirts and even denim. Expect colours like burnt orange, tangerine, and petrol blue. It is a look that allows the YP to feel dressed up, yet casual, with the comfort of soft-washed items; perfect for those summer weekends ahead either kicking around the city or at a dock up north. The shirts have character, in bold prints and colourful linen blends with a gauze-like touch and crinkled finish look. The Bohemian man can complete this look with a washed desert boot or neutral toned suede sneakers.

Soft Jacket Tailoring
Our favourite look for the YP male includes a sports jacket and should be staple in every man’s wardrobe. Three variations of the sports jacket offer a different fit, fabric and functionality for different YP scenarios. The most business look includes the classic wool blazer, distinguished by its basket weave or fine twill fabric. For an elegant business casual affair, the next version of the sports jacket is a blend of wool, silk, linen and/or cashmere, worn with a crisp white shirt and clean denim or 5-pocket trouser. Finally, most casual of sports jackets include fabrics like jersey or washed cotton, making for a truly multifunctional piece. The casual sports jacket can be paired with distressed jeans, washed chinos or cargo shorts and dock shoes.

Key Pieces:
Ermenengildo Zegna wool jacket ($1,595)
Canali wool linen jacket with metal buttons ($1,650)
Corneliani cotton jersey jacket ($1,798)
John Smedley v-neck Sea Island cotton sweater ($225)

French Style:
Harry’s Spring suits resonate with the south of France look in key colours of pale stone grey, warm tan, and bright, sophisticated blue. New tones of navy, marine, and ocean add a fresh pop of colour to a YP male’s business wear wardrobe, yet they are kept subtle in check, mini neat and soft pin stripes. We could just picture the YP male walking the streets of Cannes in the J.P. Tilford by Samuelsohn warm tan suit.

Z Zegna light cotton summer suit ($1,235)
BOSS Black stone grey suit ($1,098)

Tuxedo Styling and Summer Weddings:
For the typical YP, our spring and summer weekends are already filing up with weddings…‘tis the season. Harry Rosen has the groom, groomsmen and guests covered for wedding season 2012 with the return of the classic tuxedo. For all monumental and formal occasions in the YP’s life, the tuxedo is the most recognized statement and should be kept classic and simple. These need not be kept too formal in summer months. For the YP male attending a summer wedding or garden party, choose a summer weight or half-lined blazer and add a shirt with a bit of colour or even with a pattern or a fresh linen suit for a wedding in the tropics. Harry features an assortment of dress shirts in colours like cobalt blue, lilac and electric blue, and a collection of linen scarves to complete the look for those chilly spring nights.

Key pieces include:
BOSS Black Tuxedo ($1,098)
Etro linen jacket ($1,598) and linen scarf ($325)
Versace jacket ($1,150) and trousers with satin trim ($425)

Other trends we saw include a step away from the plain khaki, with washed chinos in bold colours; retro accessories including a return of the old school gym bag; beat-up looking penny loafers and practical, versatile sportswear. Also new and exciting for spring, the Giorgio Armani collection is now available exclusively at Harry Rosen Bloor Street. With a collection like this, the upcoming season just got brighter for the YP male and female alike.
