Four Must See Upcoming Shows in Calgary

There’s nothing worse than missing out on great music coming through town, and with all the acts coming through in the next few months we wanted to make sure you’re marking down a few dates in your calendars. Here are four must-see shows coming up and the 101 on why you should get tickets:

Destroyer
A hot act out of Vancouver’s indie scene, these guys are playing at the very cool Festival Hall Venue on April 30th. Haven’t heard of Destroyer? All you need to know to sell your friends on tickets are the following facts: 1. Destroyer is in the Shoe-Gazing genre 2. Their music has been likened to David Bowie. Don’t think about it too hard. Just buy tickets.

Bonobo
British producer, musician and DJ Bonobo will be playing at Republic on May 23rd, and if electronic music is your jam then you’re guaranteed to have a great time. Known for incorporating female vocals, creative samples and playing with full live bands, you just never know what you’re going to get. Tracks off ‘Animal Magic’ and ‘Days to Come’ will get you excited for the show.

Cut Copy
What do we associate with Australia? Well, there’s surfing, rugby, sunburns and Shiraz, but what we should really be thinking about is Cut Copy, the best pop electro band to ever grace the Southern hemisphere. You probably know them best for their singles ‘Hearts on Fire’ and ‘Lights and Music’ and they are now on tour promoting their new album, ‘Free Your Mind’. Cut Copy will be playing at Flames Central in Calgary on May 26th with Bear Mountain, another brilliant pop-inspired group out of Vancouver. This will be the best Monday you’ve had in a long time. Get your tickets here.

Timber Timbre
These guys represent everything right with indie blues and folk music in Canada right now. Timber Timbre mixes deep and moody sounds with cool lyricism that can evoke feelings of happiness and dread in the same chorus. This is stuff that your kids will be listening to in your basement 20 years from now. Might as well think ahead and attend the show so you can tell your teens that you saw Timber Timbre before they were a big deal. You can see them June 13th at Republic.
