Fitness in Calgary: The Sweat Lab

Calgary now has one more great way to get in shape: it’s called the Sweat Lab. Located close to the Aspen Landing community in the Southwest, this funky new workout space offers clients 4500 square feet to cycle, stretch and plie. The Sweat Lab sets itself apart from other gyms and studios by offering yoga, spin and barre classes under one roof. For adventurous young professionals, there are also hybrid classes that offer a mix of spin with yoga poses and barre moves.

We spoke with Allie Glass, one of the founders, who is certified as a Booty Barre instructor. She gave us a little background on the best new way to get in shape. According to Allie, the motivation for the Sweat Lab was bringing together all the founders’ different fitness strengths and bridging them into one cohesive concept. The team’s goal is to provide a beautiful space for workouts that will inspire healthy, well-balanced lifestyles.

The lab has only been open for a few months, but to date the team is very happy with the feedback they’ve received. Everyone who visits the space loves the aesthetic; the decor is actually thanks to the creative eye of Jennifer Mehalko, one of the key founders who is responsible for designing the space.

If you are excited to check out the Sweat Lab for the first time, then you’ll probably want to ask the staff to give you a little tour so you understand all ins and outs. The team really wants to ensure that everyone is relaxed and having fun in a positive environment. No matter the skill level, there is a class for everyone. If you need more reason to visit, you’ll be pleased to hear that shoe rental for spin class is free of charge (something you won’t find in many spin studios in town) and the staff offer full assistance with setting up the bikes. If you’re planning on hitting a yoga class, the Manduka Pro Mats, towels and toiletries are also complimentary.

The Sweat Lab is located at The Shoppes of Montreux (2206, 288 St. Moritz Drive SW).
