Find Out How Canadian Researchers Are Leading the Race to End Cancer

There’s no doubt about it: cancer sucks.

Chances are, someone in your life has been affected by it; 78,000 Canadians will die from cancer this year alone.

But a lot of the time, in the face of such a pervasive disease, we feel helpless about how to stop it. Fortunately, this is exactly what Stand Up To Cancer Canada (SU2C Canada) is trying to do with a pretty unique approach.

A program of EIF Canada, a Canadian registered charity, the main purpose of SU2C Canada is to drum up support for a ground-breaking “translational” research model that can produce important advances in cancer treatment. Through various fundraising efforts, the initiative has enabled leading scientists in different disciplines from multiple institutions to work together, with the ultimate goal of helping patients get new therapies as fast as possible.

These collaborative “Dream Teams” are producing innovative research that could one day cure what is the leading cause of death in Canada. Collectively, more than 1200 SU2C researchers based at 144 leading institutions from around the world have been involved in over 160 planned, launched, or completed clinical trials, in which more than 9,000 patients have participated.

However, it’s not the facts or the figures that truly communicate what SU2C has achieved – it’s the individual stories.

Featuring performances from top recording artists and celebrities from film to television and sports, STAND UP TO CANCER will appeal to the public for support and donations to fund cutting-edge cancer research. The star-studded live event will deliver a one-of-a-kind show by engaging viewers with powerful stories and a moving call-to-action.

The telecast will not only inspire, but also gives people a chance to see how their donations are directly contributing to important cancer research.

So join us and millions of people across North America on September 9 in taking a stand against cancer.
