Festival Recap: SummersEND

For those of you fortunate enough to attend this year’s SummersEND electronic music festival at the BMO Centre, you got to experience unparalleled entertainment featuring progressive set production and one of the most diverse and epic performance line-ups a Canadian festival has ever seen.

borgore

Wasting no time to heat the bass up on day one, Borgore dropped a filthy set that was then mopped up, blended, and served to the crowd by fellow Canadian heavyweight Datsik, who dropped his infamous song “Nuke ‘Em.”

Calvin Harris

After our bodies were nice and warmed up from the head-banging dubstep bass, Calvin Harris took to the stage overlooking a sea of white-dressed Calgarians and let that electro-house magic loose amidst blasting air cannons and falling seas of confetti.

Minds were blown when Infected Mushroom (pictured below) kicked off day two of the festival, pairing their ethnic-infused spin on electronic music with their intense and visually immersive 3D set from their A Fungus Amongus Tour.

IM

A tough act to follow, Chuckie captured the audience’s energy and redirected it to their dancing shoes with a bouncy house performance; Sebastian Ingrosso’s set was the calm before the storm and soothed our hearts and ears with beautiful melodious trance.

Destroid

The festival’s climax and final act was the Canadian debut performance of a new live dubstep act known as Destroid, which began as the side project of Canadian dubstep legend Excision. If you ever get the chance to see this Tron suit-clad dubstep trio perform, run to that ticket line as fast as you can.

Even though summer has ended, Flipside events helped it go out in impressive and explosive style; look out for more EDM events hosted by Flipside in Calgary’s near future.
