It was “A-Class” right from the start.
While crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, from a distance I could spot what appeared to be a white vehicle standing out on the Brooklyn Heights shoreline on the rooftop of the luxurious 1 Hotel. I was after all, in town for the global launch of the all-new Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan, so I was able to put two and two together and figure it out. It was indeed, the shiny new compact from Mercedes-Benz that everyone has been raving about.
But really, how the hell did they get that car up on an 11-story rooftop in Brooklyn?
Working and playing within the urban playground that is Toronto, I can tell you there have been many instances where an intelligent and compact car would come in handy. From finding meeting locations and restaurants to tucking into tiny parking spots last minute, the A-Class would be a welcomed companion in my day to day.
The feature that stood out to me immediately was the futuristic widescreen navigation 3-D touchscreen-enabled media display. I honestly felt like I was stepping into another dimension ready to navigate whatever the world was going to throw at me.
The star of the show: MBUX, short for Mercedes-Benz User Experience multimedia system. The A-Class is the first Mercedes-Benz to feature the all-new MBUX. The unique feature of this system is its ability to learn though artificial intelligence. MBUX is adaptable and creates an emotional connection between the vehicle, driver, and passengers helping you move seamlessly through your everyday commute.Through intelligent voice control with natural speech recognition, all you have to do is say, “Hey Mercedes” to trigger the system. “Hey Mercedes” can you show me the way to the nearest Italian restaurant? “Hey Mercedes” how long will it take me to drive to Pearson Airport and can you show me the way? “Hey Mercedes” Can you remind me to call my mom at 6.30pm Wednesday? You get the idea, truly remarkable innovation that is both practical and efficient.
If you are an urban dweller on the move looking for a daily partner in crime to get you where you need to go, than I would suggest heading into the nearest Mercedes-Benz dealership to check the A-Class out for yourself.
“Hey Mercedes” when can I see you again? Soon I hope!
