Jon Stewart, king of satire and scathing political insight, wasn’t funny last night.
Not even a little.
But he was right.
His response to the Charleston shooting is what is looks like when a comedian has run out of jokes. Because a situation simply doesn’t deserve them. Because a society is in so much trouble it’s no longer worth laughing about. Because some things never change.
And what he has to say instead of his usual comedy is so much more powerful.
