Event Spotlight: Rare Finds

If you’re in the mood to do some good while living it up this weekend, might we suggest you grab tickets to this do-good function set to take place Saturday night. It’s guaranteed to provide the perfect venue for a little networking and offer you the perfect excuse to put on your party dress, or dust off that summer-style suit.

RARE FINDS will take place at the Ferrari Maserati of Vancouver Showroom this Saturday starting at 7pm. Not your average cocktail gala event, RARE FINDS aims to fundraise for the Rare Disease Foundation. This benefit offers up a true feast for the senses and plenty more, courtesy of a handful of Vancouver’s notable young professional chefs making culinary waves.

Definitely worth mentioning: ex-Navy man, Steve Fecho, Chef and Proprietor of The Cup Bistro & Deli., who has honed his skills at noteworthy hot-spots around YVR such as The Westin Bayshore, the Vancouver Club and Lumiere. Chef Fecho is pretty much the brainchild behind the foodie- competition that is part of this fundraising event and (alongside other participating chefs) has undertaken the task to produce a unique dish for guests to sample using an unusual approach or ingredient.  Fecho is faced with his own Rare Finds – quail egg and wild boar.  We can’t wait until his big reveal.

Also up for the challenge is Executive Chef for Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts Wayne Harris, who began his career in the kitchen as cook for the Sutton Place Hotel and worked as a Restaurant Chef for the Pan Pacific Hotels Group. After having also worked as part of the team at Lumière Restaurant, Harris received the Les Grandes Tables du Monde award as well as was recognized with a Mobile Five-Diamond award. Not too shabby for a young guy, right? Chef Wayne aims to woo the crowd with his Rare Find dish: market sashimi with chipotle aioli, crispy Japanese rice, honey soya glaze.

Our last YP Chef set to take the stage at Rare Finds is Stephanie Greenslade, Pastry Chef for the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel. Food has been in Stephanie’s life forever; after having completed the Culinary and Pastry Arts programs at the Culinary Institute of Canada, she continued to build her career through work at many leading luxury hotels. From Lake Placid to Southampton, she’s made her culinary mark and is a major player in the pastry world. Ensuring that her skills are put to the test, Chef Stephanie’s Rare Find dish will be in the form of honey caramel torched smores.

Yum! We smell a winner already.

Also taking place at this Saturday’s fundraising gala is exceptional music, schmoozing, dancing and bidding. That’s right – there’s an auction with donations courtesy of Morning Moon Oceanfront Resort, Star Limousine, Fairmont Banff Springs, Top Table Group, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, WestJet, Ferrari Maserati of Vancouver, Orca Airways Ltd., Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Jugaro Jewellers Ltd., and many more. We`re pretty sure young professionals could score some amazing finds, all for a great cause.

Tickets are $150 and can be purchased here.
