It was a boisterous crowd who made a mass exodus from this week’s Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards to head directly over to Vancouver’s wine bar of choice in the middle of the city’s financial district, Joey Restaurant at Bentall. Never one to miss a party of this caliber, our Notable crew was on hand to catch all the schmoozing action and camaraderie at play…
There was definitely no shortage of both as we filed into a crowded room a buzz with post-awards show excitement.
Having celebrated its 25th year of awards, Vancouver Magazine has upped the ante on this annual showcase of Vancouver’s culinary talent, increasing the number of awards to about 50 in total. All the more reason for the city’s top chefs, restaurant owners, sommeliers, mixologists and supporting staff to play hookie for the day.
We arrived at Joey Restaurant to a champagne greeting (delicious bubbly from BC’s own Blue Mountain Vineyards). Moving quickly into the room, we snagged a sushi cone snack to keep hunger pains at bay and proceeded to explore the scene unfolding before us. Top-notch chefs mingled about, congratulating fellow award winners and hamming it up for obligatory selfies.
The patio offered a bit of cooling respite from the masses (and an amazing BBQ!) which we happily took advantage of for a stint before being beckoned inside to mingle with friends.
Tasting platters of Joey’s latest fixings came out in a steady stream, as did charcuterie boards and cheese platters – all were met with eager anticipation by hungry guests and quickly disappeared.
Check out our photos for a glimpse into the after-party world and think about sneaking into next year’s that promises to be bigger and better than ever.
