Event Recap: Toast to the Coast

This weekend, the Notable Vancouver team had the opportunity to get decked out and head over to the Vancouver Aquarium for their signature fundraising event Toast to the Coast.

Though it was a rainy evening, that didn’t stop our crew from getting dolled up for this special night alongside several hundred other party-goers who showed up to support the Aquarium’s research, conservation and educational programs.

Upon checking our obligatory umbrella (yup, it was indeed pouring), we were handed a signature Triple Sec cocktail created for the event and invited to meander our way through the decked out venue and sample Ocean Wise canapés from some of the city’s top restaurants.

There was no shortage of delectable bites courtesy of culinary hot spots such as Provence, YEW Restaurant + Bar, C Restaurant and Wild Rice (to name just a few). Nestled amongst the various food stations, we had the chance to discover wines from more than 20 different BC wineries as we eyed the stunning display of silent auction items.

A great venue for some quality fun and networking, the aquarium at night was transformed into a truly magical place and complimented by a well-dressed crowd of attendees. We made sure to bring plenty of business cards as we mixed and mingled our way around the space, making sure to grab a touch-up below deck (courtesy of Beautymark’s pop-up beauty bar) prior to hitting the dance floor.

The night wasn’t all about cocktails and canapés, though; Toast to the Coast is all about celebrating the abundance of underwater life at the aquarium, ongoing research projects and education. To compliment this, guests were invited to check out the sensory educational centre and unleash their inner ‘Jacques Cousteau.’ Aquarium staff were on hand to walk guests through how to hold a hermit crab and sea cucumber, and to learn more about sea anemone – amongst other things. We definitely made sure to get our hands wet at the starfish station before heading over to check out the shark tank and manta rays (conveniently located by the champagne and oyster station).
