Last Friday we were invited to join around 300 other young professional at the annual Starlight Halloween Soiree presented by La Clinique A to benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation Quebec at the Loft Hotel in Montreal. This was the second edition of the event and, from the looks of it, definitely not the last.
The entrance to the Loft Hotel was exquisite; a red carpet was rolled out to make guests feel like super stars. With tuxedo-clad security around it, you felt as if you might have been transported to Holly-Montreal.
With the Make Believe theme in strong effect, you became part of a magical world once inside. A graceful tattooed ballerina was on the centre stage presenting beautiful and incredibly precise moves of artistic expression. Directly behind her, a giant screen playing clips from horror and suspense movies with a soundtrack of gloomy but captivating instrumental music echoed across the room – like something out of a dark fairy tale.
Once we were in the main room and heard about the decadent candy and cocktail bar, we clicked our heels and shiny lace-up oxfords to transport ourselves there. Macarons, cupcakes, biscotti and a plethora of Halloween candies were spread out on the table. We spent a good 20 minutes of joyful sweet bliss, then headed to the dance floor to shake off our indulgent sins. The French Connection DJs played all the classics we hate to love, from “Hot Stepper” to “Thriller.” Everyone had their best boogie face on, showing their hottest breakdance, disco and slow dancing skills. Perhaps it was the open bar kicking in; after all, those vodka orange sodas were irresistible.

Let’s quickly recap costumes. The verdict was nothing less than impressive. Guests put a lot of thought and creativity to stand out and choosing a favourite was truly hard. We encountered everything from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who won the costume competition, to the good old Power Rangers and Storm Troopers. A notable mention goes to the “Burberry Pimp,” or so he called himself, with two ferrets on his shoulders, a checkered robe, velvet slippers and Mr. T jewellery that could make a pawn shop rich – you gave us a great laugh!

The highlight of the night was the funds raised: A whopping $32,000 for the Starlight Foundation, a huge success.
A big congrats to Natalie Courey, Anick Beaulieu and their team for this wonderful evening of good will, fun and networking. We can’t wait until next year!
