Event Recap: IDSwest Preview Party

Hosted by Craig Pearce and his team at Union Wood & Supply Co. in one of our favourite little design-centric industrial hoods (we’re talking about Railtown), we arrived to find they’d cleaned shop to create the perfect setting for a summer soiree. A quick trek through the store led us around back to where the party was already more than underway thanks to a steady stream of beats courtesy of The DJ Trike.

With the guys behind Le Tigre’s Food Truck serving up a constant rotation of mouth-watering goodies (we can’t get enough of those beet fries), coupled with a few Kronenbourgs, our post work appetite was more than satiated, leaving us with plenty of energy to peruse the party and take in the unique displays, as well as manage a little mingling of our own.

We happily chatted with IDSwest Show Director David Tyldesley before he called for a pause in order to go over some exciting show details, namely this year’s Laneway Living, which sees the term ‘the art of small living’ more than put to the test – and for a great cause.

A collaborative creative effort will see a unique, fully functioning designer urban abode up for live auction at the show with proceeds from the sale donated to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. A definitely notable reason to check out IDSwest on September 21 (World Alzheimer’s Day).

As the largest interior design show in Western Canada, IDSwest showcases a seemingly endless array of curated exhibits and handcrafted items, features world-class installations (like the Laneway construct) and sought-after speakers such as design guru and TV host Kelly Deck, who was also at the preview.
