Harry, you’ve done it again! The Harry Rosen Underground Lounge was held on recently in the downtown CORE and was having a great time. The private party was full of fashionably dressed people who got to enjoy an exclusive performance with Reuben and the Dark.
Rueben and the Dark is an up and coming band in Calgary that is just getting ready to release their debut album. The band’s stripped down folk-rock is starting to draw audiences, which is evident in the fact that the Arts and Crafts record label has just signed them. This is no small feat considering Arts and Crafts is best known for representing other Canadian greats like Broken Social Scene and Feist. If you’ve ever caught a live performance of Rueben and the Dark, you’d probably compare them to the Fleet Foxes or Local Natives.
We caught Rueben and the band before they performed at the Underground Lounge and asked them to sum up the band’s fashion sense. They described their style as quite laid back and casual. In other words, these guys are big fans of jeans and t-shirts, but they were happy to sport a few new items from the Harry store for their performance. Rueben wore a John Varvatos t-shirt with Adriano Goldschmeid (AG) jeans (Dylan cut), Dillon wore a PYA long sleeve t-shirt, a John Varvatos vest and AG jeans (Dylan cut), Distance sported an Armani jacket with AG Jeans (Dylan cut) and Shea wore a John Varvatos t-shirt with AG jeans (Graduate Cut). Dillon was no doubt very happy to see his bandmates in jeans sporting his name.
You can’t help but get excited about fall fashion when you’re spending the evening in one of Calgary’s most fashionable stores. We asked the Harry staff to share a few tips on must-have items for the fall season. With the weather cooling down, they recommended looking for winter boots. They suggested Sorel as a stylish option, which will keep you warm and stylish during Calgary’s deep winter. Hunter and Ugg are also terrific alternatives. The Harry staff also suggested looking for a vest, which is something that will instantly update your wardrobe. You can check out the selection of John Varvatos vests and stylish winter boots on the Harry Rosen site.
Peroni and Maker’s Mark bourbon sponsored the Underground Lounge and guests sipped on Boulevardier cocktails while they watched the show. The Boulevardier is closely related to the Negroni, with bourbon being used as a substitute for gin. We wouldn’t be Notable without sharing the recipe, would we?
1 1/2 oz. Maker’s Mark bourbon
1 oz. Campari
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
A dash of orange bitters
Garnish with a burnt orange peel
