Event Recap: CHIVAS 1801 at Sassafraz

Last Thursday (November 21st) we hit Yorkville’s Sassafraz restaurant for the Chivas 1801 event for an evening of scotch, cigars, style and conversation. The occasion marked an exclusive evening of Chivas tasting (both on its own and in cocktails), unsurprisingly delicious food (it’s Sassafraz, after all), easy-on-the-eyes guests and beats by Dan Buckman and the rest of the Bellosound team (accompanied by a saxophone player) and DJ Starting from Scratch.

Of course, networking opportunities were ample and guests in attendance included former Blue Jay Roberto Alomar, former Maple Leaf Curtis Joseph, and MuchMusic’s Liz Trinnear in addition to the regular suspects on the city’s event scene. It marked a rare occasion that the landmark Yorkville restaurant has played host to such an event in some time (at least one that we’ve attended).

The evening kicked off at 6:30pm in a private dinner and tasting for the participants of our Notable.ca and Chivas bartending challenge. As you may recall, we profiled Toronto’s top bartenders weekly, who showcased their unique Chivas cocktail, each of which reflected a modern spin on a classic.

The ultimate boys night out (though the ladies seemed to be in fine spirits as well) featured cigar girls, an on-site grooming station from Mankind, and a GotStyle display that offered a glimpse of the cool winter wear (ties, shirts, scarves and hats) that you can find in store. They also gave out pocket squares.

The party was still going strong when we headed home around midnight, likely thanks to those addictive and flowing Chivas cocktails.
