Event Recap: Aperos Bordeux

This past Tuesday the last edition of Aperos Bordeaux of 2012 took place at Auberge Saint Gabriel. For those that are not familiar with this event, it’s a wine tasting get together that has been around since 2011 and takes place at various Montreal restaurants during the year. The overall goal is to promote the Bordeaux region by allowing guests to indulge in the finer “drinks” of life and educating them on France’s best wines. This is also an ideal time to connect and network with people from every industry sector with the vibe being so laid back and fun, that you could easily approach anyone and spark up a conversation. We definitely did.

Auberge was host to a very well-curated selection of Bordeaux wines. The best thing was that guests, and let us tell you it was SO packed we could barely snap pictures, paid only $5 a glass and also got a piece of tasty chocolate alongside, including Auberge star chef Eric Gonzalez’s brand new “Ecorce” chocolate. We have been to tastings before, but a $5 glass of Rothschild to sample is quite a special deal.

This was an ideal 5 a 7, an after-work congregation of young professionals from all walks of life. With local favourite and the official Aperos 2012 edition DJ Abeille spinning on the second level of Auberge’s rustic and modern interior, her funky beats were echoed all across the stone-clad space while YPs got a “liquid education” as each tasting station was run by two accredited sommeliers. Talk about a new take on wine 101! If you missed it this time, you will have to wait until 2013; and judging by how happening this night was, next year might need an even bigger location.
