Event Recap: 2013 Sinai Soiree

An event held at Toronto’s historic Casa Loma is never one to miss and the Great Gatsby-themed 2013 Sinai Soiree was no exception. Providing the perfect setting for the occasion, the imagination-amplifying castle, coupled with warm summer weather, made for a memorable evening to kick start the season with fellow young professionals (YPs) last Thursday (June 20th).

Guests, most of whom were serious about the theme, were transported back in time within the castle’s romantically lit walls and on the back terrace that overlooks the sprawling gardens and water fountains.

Admittedly, themed events are fun but sometimes annoying, especially when costume-esque attire is required and preparation time is limited, but a boutique pop-up offered guests Gatsby-themed accessories like feathers and headpieces upon entry to the party.

The balmy evening kicked off with an intimate VIP reception on the terrace, where an assortment of guests –  most young professionals, but others our parents’ age as well – enjoyed live jazz, a welcomed abundance of passed hors d’oeuvres (with crowd-pleasers like pistachio-crusted goat cheese balls, tuna tartar and gooey grilled cheese), bubbly, and no shortage of photo opps with friends.

Despite it being a “work night,” the beautiful (and rare!) weather combined with the sounds of Toronto’s DJ M Kutz kept the party going until the very end.

The Sinai Soiree is the annual fundraiser hosted by Future Sinai, with proceeds from the event supporting the Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary’s $4.4-million women’s health campaign.
