Escape to the Crossing at Ghost River

A mere 50-minute drive from Calgary’s city centre conveniently brings you to The Crossing at Ghost River (approximately 20km northwest of Cochrane). Situated amongst some of the provinces prettiest landscape, its easy access makes it the ideal location for corporate conferencing, meeting space, special events, programs, and group gatherings.

The name comes directly from the history of the land; first, people indigenous to the region utilized a low point in the river as a crossing. Later, it was utilized as a crossing by early explorers, traders, and settlers. In more recent times, The Crossing at Ghost River’s ownership can be traced to the Canadian Pacific Railway. Although it changed hands several times, it continues to be a place recognized for its intangible qualities. The Crossing started its official vehicle as a conference and learning centre in the late 1970s.

Ghost River Crossing, as it was formally known, was recently purchased by a private company based in Calgary. Since taking over ownership, they have modernized the comforts, while respecting the integrity of the space.

The property is made up of 24 bedrooms furnished with antiques, quilts, and picturesque views in four different buildings. Each building provides unique options to utilize the space for anything from brainstorming sessions and group activities, to corporate retreats or team meetings. The Crossing is also able to do boardroom-style, classroom-style, and theatre-style seating arrangements in the various meeting spaces.

Choose from traditionally designed buildings with vast windows and French doors, which allow for light and fresh air to fill the room, to a pine barn, which offers an upstairs loft space with warm wood-panelled walls, soaring ceilings, large windows, and sliding glass doors leading to a large deck built into the hillside.

They also have River, a seasonal screened pavilion overlooking the banks of the Ghost River built to bring the outside in. With its screened interior and natural river rock fireplace, meetings here become a welcome respite from the usual.

Love food? Indulge in the world-class cuisine prepared by the Crossing’s Red Seal Chef and culinary team who combine the perfect amount of comfort and class in their creations, while constantly seeking fresh ingredients to showcase their dishes.

While there, visitors have access to a variety of outdoor on-property activities including hiking, fly fishing, cross-country skiing, horseshoes, snowshoeing, wildlife watching, and bonfire pits. They also group activities such as yoga and fitness classes, meditation, a drumming circle, and leadership training course with horses, wine tastings with their Sommelier, and cooking classes.
