Escape to Brewster’s Shadow Lake Lodge

For the adventurous young professional, simply driving directly to where you are staying is a little blasé. Brewster’s Shadow Lake Lodge, located 19km west of Banff, is not the easiest place to get to, the only access in or out being via trail. Trust us when we say it is definitely worth the hike.

Picture yourself in the backcountry of the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by the tranquil peace and quiet that comes with being so far away from any city.

To get there, you must first park at Red Earth Creek Parking lot, west of Banff; from there, you can either snowshoe or cross-country ski the 14km marked trail to Shadow Lake Lodge.

With an afternoon trip like that, you’re bound to work up an appetite. Upon arrival at the Lodge, guests are greeted with the sweet smells of homemade breads and goodies for afternoon tea.

The food is great and all made in-house. Meals are served in the Main Lodge’s dining room, giving you an opportunity to get to know fellow guests. Dinners are made up of fresh breads, homemade soup, delicious salad, vegetable dishes and a daily choice of pork tenderloin, chicken breast, beef tenderloin, salmon or tuna. Homemade desserts follow with tea & coffee. Daily homemade breads start the day accompanied by a hearty breakfast.

The rustic charm of The Lodge is an experience in itself. Made up of a collection of cabins, each is propane heated and uses solar powered lighting.

Looking for something extra special? They offer several packages, including The Royal Treatment – two nights stay in a private log cabin, three mountain gourmet meals a day, afternoon tea, champagne and chocolate. Pricing starts at $196+taxes per person per night
