East Village Stampede Breakfast and Vintage Market

The East Village is set to become Calgary’s newest, oldest, coolest and warmest neighbourhood in town and, unlike many other new residential developments, is also becoming a mediator for arts and culture in the city. It is master-planned for livability, walkability and recreation, with the historic Simmons Building now a centrepeice for one-of-a-kind events and installations.

In case you missed the news, Calgary has been designated as Canada’s Cultural Capital for 2012. It would only be fitting, then, that the East Village lives up to the title and contributes to the city’s cultural scene in a big way. And it has. By hosting hosting unforgettable events and initiatives since the development first kicked into gear, ranging from block parties to last week’s 2012 Sled Island Music and Arts Festival, the East Village has been more than just a welcomed neighbour.

This year’s Calgary Stampede is no exception, as the East Village kicks off the festivities early with their first ever Stampede Breakfast on Saturday, July 7. Taking place outside on RiverWalk from 9:00-10:00am, enjoy your breakfast while overlooking the beautiful Bow River. Their historic Simmons building is celebrating its centennial just like the Calgary Stampede and, in honor of its 100th birthday, The East Village will be hosting a Vintage in the Village market in the back of Simmons. Vendors featuring vintage clothing, jewelry, toys, quilts, antiques, furniture and art will be set up in the event space.
