Drake Just Hit a Major Milestone in His Career

As a born and bred Torontonian, I’ve accepted that my city is now synonymous with a certain uber-popular rapper.

Basically, if you didn’t already know, this is Draketown – we’re all just living in it. And every time you think we’ve reached peak 6-god, he takes his stratospheric celebrity status to a new level.

Not only does he have the number one album and song on the Billboard charts with Views and “One Dance,” having both in the top slot at the same time for seven consecutive weeks means he’s unlocked a new achievement. The only other artist to do such a feat? The King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.

In fact, he actually would’ve smashed MJ’s record had it not been for Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” single which dethroned “One Dance” for a week. Still, he’s not out of the running just yet. He’s also on track to beat Adele’s record for longest chart-topping album if Views can hang on to that top spot for another week.

A partial key to his success? Streaming. Unlike Adele’s 21 which was more dependent on sales, the nearly 100 million streams of Views on Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal combined have helped solidify Drake’s status as one of the most popular artists of all time.

Who would’ve thought that Wheelchair Jimmy would make it this big? All this and he still hasn’t even dropped the video for “One Dance” yet. Knowing Drake, it’ll be just as meme-worthy as his last mega hit.
