District Gastropub

The District’s slogan is “where foodies love to drink” and it’s easy to see why. The beer selection is comprised of house micro brews and premium bottle beers with a few old favourites thrown in for good measure. The house micro brews are made at Calgary’s own Brew Brothers which is conveniently located right next door to District. With names such as “Hairy Eyeball” and “Horndog,” these local creations are served in 18 oz jars and are beloved by District regulars.

The menu at District changes so often that printing out a physical copy would be pointless, so information about the food can be found on chalkboards located around the pub. Their menu is full of updated versions of your favourite comfort foods, such as Bacon and Vine-Ripened Tomato Mac and Cheese with Jalapeno Jack Cheese. They serve up an infamous dish called Bucket of Bacon which, happily, is exactly what it sounds like: a bucket with bacon with a side of maple syrup. District is also famous for their poutine that is served with veal gravy and raw cheese curds. Diners can choose from additional toppings such as fried egg, ground lamb, caramelized onion and duck confit. District is also well known for their midnight pancake breakfasts that occur annually around Stampede. District has a focus on organic and local ingredients and almost everything (even the ketchup!) is homemade.

For those who want something non-alcoholic, District serves Steeps loose leaf teas. The flavours range from the familiar (Earl Grey) to the exotic (Golden Money and Vithanankande) .

This place is known to get packed, so if you’re going there with a large group, arrive early in order to get a choice spot or plan on going for happy hour and take advantage of drink specials. District, 607 11th Ave SW, Calgary, 403-233-2433.
