#DayofPink: Wear Pink Today to Stand Up Against Bullying and Homophobia

You may have noticed a little more pink in your office this morning.

Today is the Day of Pink; the International Day against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia and transmisogyny.

Canadians were encouraged to don a pink shirt today in schools and workplaces in support of the cause.

The International Day of Pink was started in Nova Scotia when two straight high school students saw a gay student who was wearing a pink shirt being bullied. They intervened, but wanted to do more about it.

So they bought a few pink shirts, and a few days later got everyone at the school to arrive wearing pink. Standing in solidarity, the entire school took a stand against homophobic bullying.

Supporting the cause doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy a pink shirt on your lunch break.

Post a shot of yourself in a pink shirt from last summer, a snap of those bright pink lipstick lips (if you brought your makeup bag to work), or an image of pink flowers, with the hashtag #dayofpink.

You can also donate to the cause here.

And together we can make a very big (and bright) difference.
