Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
At The Primp Club, we see ourselves at the forefront in the evolution of men’s skincare and grooming. We recently launched, so day to day I am still juggling product, marketing and distribution. I’m directly involved in every piece of the business.  It’s a fun, exciting time as we build a brand, develop new product and grow our customer base.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I always wanted to start a men’s lifestyle brand. In the past, I was more focused on style and fashion but recently I began to see personal care products as a natural progression beyond clothing and accessories. As it turns out, there’s significant overlap between fashion and personal care, particularly when it comes to creativity and brand positioning. I’ve been very lucky that this opportunity presented itself as the men’s grooming industry is a fun, exciting space with a lot growth opportunity.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
Responsibility and creativity. Responsibility motivates me, while creativity allows me to use my mind and cross unchartered territory (we have some cool stuff in the hopper).

Starting a business can be pretty full-on. Occasionally it feels like you’re playing catch-up all day. You need to be strict with your time and expect long hours. That’s why it’s so important to love what you do.

What is one sign that you’ve seen over the years to suggest that your work/life balance is off?
Physical pain. Sounds a little hardcore, but if I don’t push my body physically at least every few days I know I need to re-adjust my schedule and make time. For me, breaking a sweat is about self-care and an outlet to destress.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
In five years I see The Primp Club as a household name across North America. I’m going to be there right along with it.

What is one major challenge that you’ve had to overcome in your career? How did you overcome it?
I was never fully satisfied as an employee. I always wanted to do something like what I’m doing now, but wasn’t able to dedicate the time and energy off the side of my desk. In essence, doing what I’ve been telling myself to do for the past five years was the hardest part. Making the leap wasn’t easy, but it was necessary for me to be truly content.

What does success look like to you? Does Money = Happiness?
I think success is being content with where you are in the present. I truly believe that it’s about the journey, not the destination. Money is nice, and having no money is scary, but it’s not the equation to happiness. I’m focused on building something that I’m proud of and hopefully making a difference in people’s lives.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
Launching The Primp Club and receiving amazing feedback. The response has exceeded our expectations and has been very motivating.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Get at it as soon as possible. Be true to your individuality. Surround yourself with people you admire and be thirsty for knowledge.

Where is your favourite place to wine/ dine in your city and why?
Vancouver has no shortage of incredible restaurants. My two favourites are Chambar and Cuchillo. My go-to meal is still the burger at Cactus.

When you’re not working how do you love to spend your “Me” time?
If I have a few hours, I love to grind on the tennis court. If I have a few days, my ultimate favourite getaway is our family cabin on Cortes Island, which was built by my bro.

Where is your favourite place to travel? Why?
New York. The energy is contagious. I see new things, experience new cultures, and build new inspirations.

If you had to choose a theme song, what would it be?
“Classic Man” by Jidenna  – for The Primp Club.

If you weren’t doing what you’re doing, what would you be doing?
I’d either be working at a different start-up, teaching tennis, or doing yard work for my mom.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I support a number of charities. Two in particular that are close to my heart are the Children’s Hospital and Canadian Diabetes Association.

What to you is notable?
A network of likeminded business people doing notable things.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
iPhone 5s. Time for an upgrade.
