Chelsea Handler Created An App That Let’s You Receive Fake ‘Excuse’ Texts and Phone Calls

We’ve definitely found ourselves in many a situation we haven’t wanted to be in – from first dates to awkward conversations in the grocery store with an old high school classmate.

And in these situations the best thing to be able to do is simply get the hell out as quickly as possible.

Well now, thanks to comedian Chelsea Handler, there’s an app for that. Gotta Go is here to make sure you’re never stuck in an awkward or tedious situation again. The app offers a simple solution to get out of there with just two taps as a rescue text or call is delivered to your phone.

With the app, you can politely and gracefully remove yourself from the situation with a legitimate excuse without hurting feelings.

It opens with each excuse in a coloured square represented by an emoji. The excuses are sent via text, with a follow up text a minute later, to emphasize urgency. The presets default to delivering the messages 30 minutes after you’ve hit “Activate.” There is also an option for a rescue phone call.

Each preset excuse is also customizable. Which means you can set who sent the message, what it says, the timing of the message, and the follow-up calls or messages.

It’s available now for free on iOS.
