Charity Spotlight: BeCause (United Way)

The United Way of Calgary and Area has been an integral part of the non-profit world for decades. In 2003, they launched an initiative that was geared solely towards engaging individuals in their twenties and thirties. Recently it was rebranded as BeCause, and since the rebrand they haven’t looked back.

BeCause motivates and enables Calgarians to give their time, money and spirit to building a great city for everyone. For those involved, it offers meaningful experiences, tangible outcomes, and a sense of awareness and a connection to the issue. They’ve really made it easy for YPs to get involved in a variety of ways, such as charitable giving & fundraising, volunteerism, and community & civic engagement.

They understood the value that our YP demographic, aka the future leaders, has to offer, while also understanding the unique challenge towards engaging us elusive and busy young professionals.

The various BeCause programs and events enable the next generation of Calgarians to better understand social issues and actively create positive change in our community through giving, volunteering and participating. The best part? It’s actually a lot of fun and you get the opportunity to connect with other YPs who are dedicated to making our community the best it can be.

Their programs include Urban Exposure, I Volunteer BeCause, Why?Race, and the Black&Red Bash (which happens to be fast approaching!), all of which have had amazing success because they are fun and geared towards YPs.

The United Way believes that it’s easy to participate in your community while feeling passionate about a cause. All it takes is embracing something you feel passionate about and making it your own. It is simple and even the smallest efforts can make a big difference in the lives of others.

BeCause makes it easy to get involved with the community, whether you want to volunteer, grow your social network, or meet other leaders in the community.
