Chanel SS14: A New Approach to Pearls

“Pearl is always right,” said Coco Chanel, who originally fashioned pearls as a versatile and classic staple to every woman’s wardrobe. Chanel was the first to commend the combination of white pearls with conservative style, and though they have recently become second-string in high fashion, Chanel is reinventing pearls yet again with unexpected, contemporary shapes. Chanel has taken the country club out of the equation by offering gigantic, bauble necklaces, rings and bracelets for spring 2014.

The most popular of the collection was the pearl “headphone” choker, which has already graced the covers of Vogue Italia, Vogue Australia and Harper’s Bazaar UK. The giant pearl spheres are slung around the neck resembling a pair of headphones.

While not everyone can pull off this ultra-modern and bold look, socialites, fashionistas and celebrities have already been seen sporting the unconventional statement pieces. What are your thoughts on this off-beat take on pearls?
