Meghan Kraft is a busy woman.
Not only is she the Creative Producer at Somewhere Variety, but she’s also a brand strategist for a handful of other companies. She starts to laugh immediately when asked, “how can we describe your job?”. Straying from a defined path and instead choosing to follow her passions has lead Meghan to many amazing opportunities. We sat down with her to chat more about how she got to where she is today.
Best piece of advice you ever received?
The best piece of advice that I think I’ve received is to focus. You can’t be an expert at everything. You’ve got to focus if you want to be the best.
Who do you look up to?
I look up to the inspiring group of female entrepreneurs around me.
Favourite Instagram account right now to follow?
First thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
I go through my Instagram feed, which is terrible. Or I tell Google to play the news.
I couldn’t do what I do without…?
I couldn’t do what I do without the amazing people around me, but also taking the time did to take care of myself.
How did you get into your career?
I got into it through a lot of wrong turns and following what my passions were and trying to make a career out of that. Instead of saying, “I want to do this for a living” I thought, “how do I make all my priorities align in a way where I get to live my ideal life and do something I love every day?. That thinking has led me on this journey where I just keep stepping in the right direction. It’s been a lot of me learning authentically who I am and what I want out of my life.
What makes your job #CareerGoals?
I have about 10 jobs, but I’m currently the creative producer for a cannabis company which was a dream come true. Every single day I get to do something creative and I’m being valued for my ideas – not a sales goal or something I have to pitch. It’s really about taking these crazy concepts in my mind and turning them into a tangible reality for a consumer to enjoy. Travelling around the world shooting videos is pretty much #Careergoals.
What does ambition mean to you?
That you can know what you want and be so focused on it that you can begin to start pushing aside all of the fluff that can distract you from your goal so you can truly focus on it.
Looking back, are there moments for you that stand out as defining moments?
So many! I think sometimes I don’t realize they are defining moments until down the line and then think “oh, that part that was so terrible or didn’t seem like it had value suddenly makes sense. I think one of the biggest moments was selling my business, and committing to what was best for me instead of what was best for my business. It was a really hard year but at the end of it, making that decision felt like a spiritual moment in my life. It was like the whole world was burning around me and I was meant to start a fresh chapter. Those moments really define you and allow you to refresh who you are and what your values and priorities are.
What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?
I’d say overcoming some big adversities in my life, from losing a parent, to losing my hearing.
