Calgary’s Best BBQ Spots

Stampede is around the corner and with that generally comes a fair amount of barbeque classics. But there are several places in the city that bring you this delicious finger-licking fare year round. The following are our picks for great barbeque food in Calgary…

The Palomino
Know as much for their live music as they are for their food, The Palomino is located in the heart of the city’s downtown (109 7 Ave. SW). They smoke all their meat low and slow in Canada’s largest barbeque pit so you know the flavours are going to be authentic. Their menu features classics such as St. Louis-style ribs, pulled pork, chicken and true Alberta beef brisket.  We suggest trying their pulled pork poutine as you indulge in a pint.

Bookers BBQ Grill and Crab Shack
A common spot for corporate YPs, Bookers know what they’re doing when it comes to barbeque. Every day, their signature smokehouse produces over 200 pounds of BBQ. They also boast custom dry rubs and classic BBQ sauces which really make the flavours pop. With so many options, we suggest grabbing some friends and ordering one of their platters so you can try a variety of their food.

Holy Smoke BBQ
With two locations in the city, Holy Smoke offers a simple yet delicious menu, with staples such as pulled pork and beef brisket. The meat speaks for itself, but they also make all their sauces in-house. Of course no BBQ meal is complete without some classic sides; we suggest pairing your meal with their housemade cornbread.

Charcut
Not necessarily true barbeque per say, Charcut are experts when it comes to meat. Located in Hotel le Germain (899 Centre St. S), the restaurant features a custom-built rotisserie and char broiler, and all the meat they serve is butchered and smoked in-house. We suggest trying the Pig Head Mortadella, which is studded with pistachios and truffles.
