Calgary Weekender: September 20 through 22, 2013

Friday
The Calgary International Film Festival is going on and if you’re up to get down this Friday, check out Bending Steel at the Globe Theatre at 7:30pm, about a guy who literally starts bending steel. There are also loads of other films throughout the fest, so surf on over to calgaryfilm.com for more details about the fest.

Head on down to The Playhouse (115 9th Ave SE) on Friday for In the Heat of the Night by Matt Pelfrey, which is part of the BD&P Mystery Theatre Series. Based on a book by John Ball the mystery involved Alabama in the 60s, and you can get great seats for $52 a pop. Click here for more details.

Saturday
Vancouver band the Young Galaxy (with Human Human) are playing at The Gateway at SAIT (1301 16th Ave NW) on the 21st. Show’s at 8pm, and tickets are $12.50 in advance. The indie/dream/synthpop band are playing at the Electric Owl in Vancouver later this month and keep it rippin, ear plugs or not. Check out their site at younggalaxy.com.

Head on out to Banff for the delayed-by-the-flood Serena Ryder show from 3pm to 5pm. Adam Cohen is headlining the event with Serena Ryder and Danny Michel as opening acts for the show. It’s rain or shine, so take a look at the forecast and check out banffcentre.org for more details.

Sunday
In the mood for some caffeine? Or maybe wired is too energetic and you’re in the mood for slow sustenance? Get yourself down to Gravity in Inglewood (909 10 Street SE) for some sort of morning beverage. Whether it’s a cup of tea courtesy of the Tea Traders down the street, or a double Americano half full, you’ll be starting your Sunday off right.

Maybe interior design inspirations are more your game this Sunday… yet you’re uninspired by the ideas streaming to your home. Get on up and get on down to the Calgary Home + Design Show, where the W Network’s Jonathan and Drew Scott, the Property Brothers, and our favourite bachelorette/design show maiden, Jillian Harris, current host of Love It or List It Vancouver, will be on hand to provide inspiration and innovations for homeowners. Tons of local talent will be present as well as the dynamite show rocks BMO Centre (20 Roundup Way SE) all weekend.
