Calgary Weekender: October 9 through 12, 2014

Thursday

APT22 Party
Shopping at APT22 is kind of like going through your BFF’s closet after a few glasses of wine – it’s always an enjoyable experience and you usually end of leaving with something great to wear out. APT22 is throwing their fall party with Bona Roma and Excess Wines tonight from 6 to 9pm, which means food, wine, discounts and the chance to get a makeover before hitting the town. This is probably the most glamorous way to start Thanksgiving.

Hubb Launch Party
It’s the long weekend – why not blow off a little steam this evening? Hubb Music is throwing their official launch party, so put on your party outfit, pop some champagne and head down to Murmur Night Club to catch a performance by jetsetter and Ibiza regular DJ John Dahlback. If you still haven’t heard about Hubb, then you should get on it. These guys have taken the Tinder concept and used if for something way better than random hook-ups: new music.

Friday/Saturday

ScreamFest
If you’re looking for something downright terrifying to try on a day off, bail on the single track biking lesson and head to ScreamFest (located at the Stampede Grandstand this year). This haunted house will make you shiver, scream and call out for your mom with all the creepy sound effects and on site staff in terrifying costumes. Just remember: this isn’t a family-friendly activity, so leave grandma at home for this one. Tickets are $25.

Saturday

Fall for East Village
Let’s face it, nobody’s hitting the gym during the holiday… so let’s accept the fact that this weekend is all about calorie consumption. Since this is the time of year to indulge, why not enjoy the fall weather with a walk through East Village (Calgary’s coolest new neighborhood) and experience some artisanal shopping, a pop-up food truck scene and a photo booth. You can also select a pumpkin from the patch on-site if you bring a food bank donation. Can you think of anything else you’d rather do?

Saturday/Sunday

Long Weekend Brunch

Sunday are always more enjoyable when you get to sleep in and partake in a lazy brunch date, so round up your breakfast posse and head to Craft Beer Market between 10am and 2pm. There will be a hearty selection of breakfast and lunch items like eggs Benny, fruit bowls and French toast to go with over 100 beers on tap. To be on the safe side, you should really make a reservation (we all know how much Calgarians love their brunch).

All Weekend

Halfy Hour

Ok, so maybe there’s one more thing we can think of that would be more fun than picking out your pumpkin and eating lunch on the East Village riverbank. Anejo is known for making a mean margarita, and their tequila shelf has pretty much the best selection of agave-based spirits in the entire city. Every day from 3 to 5pm you can take advantage of not only half-priced drinks, but also half-priced food. If you’re not into mashed potatoes or antics from your weird half uncle, then skip out of your regular traditions and order some guacamole and Don Julio.
