The city has been transformed into a ‘winter wonderland’ so to speak, but don’t let the snow deter you from enjoying all that Calgary has to offer this weekend.
Thursday evening Boobyball hits Calgary with Camp Booby. In support of Rethink Breast Cancer, this year’s glam fest, happening at the Devonian Gardens (8 Ave & 2 St SW – 4 FL), will set your inner camper ablaze in nostalgia as city swank meets bug-juice cocktails, urban bonfires, wiener-eating contests, tuck shop surprises, and s’more. This event is sure to take you straight back to the good ol’ days of sleep-away camp.
For those who haven’t had a chance to check out any of the Honens International Piano Competition, the finals will be taking place Thursday and Friday evening at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Following the competition head to the Auburn Saloon to experience Honens after hours with their take on New York’s popular “Le Poisson Rouge.” You’ll get to hear competition pianists and emerging Canadian classical musicians jam the night away.
Friday evening check out Old Trout Puppet Workshop’s Calgary Brief Festival, a new annual performance festival about short-form experimental theatre and film. Aimed towards uniting Calgary’s puppet and animation community, the festival will debut in site-specific locations in the lobby of the Pumphouse Theatre (2140 Pumphouse Ave SW) in conjunction with the Calgary run of “Ignorance.”
For those of you who love fashion and have an inkling towards the world of mixology, head to Endeavor Arts & Events Space for MakeCocktails #2. You’ll get to support MAKE Fashion with some of the most tantalizing libations Calgary has ever seen. Join Darren Fabian and Philippe Grandbois, who will be showcasing Masterful Mixology with amazingly artistic Harvest Cocktails. Not only will you get to try these tasty creations, you can also learn how to make the drinks yourself.
Hopefully you have your costume complete, because Saturday is all about Halloween. Yes, we know the actual day is this coming Wednesday, but the best Halloween parties will be taking place throughout the city on the weekend. Not sure where you want to go? Be sure to check out our Notable Halloween Guide.
Sunday may be a cozy day to enjoy a little chill time indoors. But if you are in the mood for venturing out, we think REAP and Vine and Dine Present: Corks and Talks being held at Boxwood (340 13 Ave SW) is a great way to spend the evening. This is your opportunity to ‘Meet The Maker’ as REAP (Respect For The Earth and All People) and Vine and Dine bring together local producers that endorse the REAP philosophy to tell you about their experiences and passions. The evening will feature Mary Ellen and Andreas Grueneberg of Greens, Eggs and Ham, a six-course meal of local, sustainable and wholesome food that will be paired with six delicious Canadian wines that complement it.
