Calgary Weekender: October 21st through 23rd, 2011

This weekend is all about celebrating local talent and having a blast while doing it…let’s be honest though, is there really any other way to celebrate?

First we have the Prairie Dance Circuit. As part of the The Fluid Festival, this annual event is a co-production with Dancers Studio West in conjunction with the CanDance Network and the Prairie Dance Circuit. With two performances (Friday and Sunday evening) there is no reason to not catch a performance by some of the prairie’s contemporary dancers and physical performers.

Interested in something a little more risqué? Why not head to Lolita’s Lounge in the historic neighbourhood of Inglewood to catch The Garter Girls Burly-Q Revue. Sit back, sip cocktails and take in this burlesque show, ’cause this group of performers is guaranteed to bring something to the stage you won’t find anywhere else in the city.

Last we have Market Collective. Happening both Saturday and Sunday (Oct 22nd and 23rd) this innovative event is not your typical ‘market’. As a community space, it showcases the work of local artists, artisans and musicians, promoting the local arts and culture of YYC. Come peruse the various booths and meet local artists, musicians and non-profit organizations that drive Calgary’s community ties. This time around, the feature musician will be Jocelyn Alice. No matter how late your previous evening was, you’ll definitely want to check this out!
