With so much going on in the city for Canada Day, we suggest checking out several spots throughout the weekend. The following are our picks for Canada Day events:
Craft Beer Market
Craft Beer Market will be hosting the first Annual Craft Beer Festival from 2:00 – 6:00pm. For $20 you get 20 sample tickets and the opportunity to try some of the best craft beers that Canada has to offer. Need another reason to come? Partial proceeds from this event go to Kids Cancer Care. What could be more Canadian that sipping on Canadian craft beers on Canada Day?
Olympic Plaza
Take part in Calgary Eats. Olympic Plaza (222 8 Ave SE) will be transforming into the city’s ‘dining room’ from 12:00 – 6:00 pm. Purchase fresh fruits, cheeses, and baked goods from local farmers and retailers, experience the city’s food truck phenomenon, learn how to plant veggies (even urban YPs can learn a thing or two), or experience fine dining from one of Calgary’s local restaurants.
RiverWalk
The riverfront (618 Confluence Way) in the city’s East Village is fast becoming a hotspot destination for many YPs. Bike or walk alongside Calgary’s newest gathering place as you take in performances and activities that will be taking place from 1:00 – 9:00pm.
Prince’s Island Park
There will be endless activities taking place on Prince’s Island Park. Head down with some friends and take part in creating the city’s largest living flag. While there, chill out on the grass as you enjoy the live music throughout the day. There will be all types of tunes, including folk, rock, jazz, indie pop, reggae and Francophone.
West Restaurant and Bar
Calgary’s largest outdoor rooftop patio will be bumping throughout the day and into the night as they host their Good Times Long Weekend Old School Party. Chill out at one of the cabanas as you enjoy all your favourite old school anthems from the 80s and 90s being spun by Gummi & Bugsy Brown. They also offer bottle/table service, so head down with a group and celebrate our great nation in style.
Canada Day Fireworks
No matter what you do, be sure to look skyward towards the Centre Street bridge at 10:45 p.m. There will be an amazing fireworks show lighting up the Calgary sky to cap off our nation’s birthday party.
