Smack dab in the Financial District, Bymark is an underground, gourmet and upper tier restaurant in Toronto. The concourse space is put to great use as a layer beneath the Financial District: Bymark efficiently creates an elegant, mysterious and posh dining experience. This cave-like space also has an above ground bar/lounge area walled with windows looking out into Toronto power epicentre that is the Financial District.
The bar fills up much too quickly with well-dressed, beautiful people rubbing elbows come 4 o’clock. But in the summer, the Toronto patios open, allowing for much more space. Even still, this posh joint never fails to attract a crowd.
Bymark is owned by renowned chef Mark McEwan, who’s not only a celebrity chef, but a TV personality – most recently as head judge on Top Chef Canada – author of the best-selling book Great Food at Home, and also owner of both North 44 and One in Toronto. So needless to say, that you can come here expecting your taste buds to be blown away, and it would be an easily met expectation: Bymark’s food is so sumptuously good that it will linger around the fantasy-driven areas of your mind for a few days after.
Most notable on their menu is the Bymark 8oz USDA Prime Rib Burger with brie de meaux, grilled king mushrooms, and crisp onion rings, the Seared Day Boat Scallops with braised oxtail risotto, roasted squash and vincotto reduction, and the Bison Tenderloin wrapped in wild boar bacon with beluga lentils, mikuni mushrooms, and pen tendrils in a mustard sauce. The Toronto restaurant’s menu is focused on Canadian-sourced ingredients, and the extensive wine list will never cease to amaze.
Catering to business folk, they have three large private dining rooms which can accommodate up to 42 people, a fantastic spot for a meeting, product launch or brainstorming session at a great location in the Financial District. Bymark, 66 Wellington Street West, 416-777-1144.
