Business of Weed with Jay Rosenthal

What do you know about weed?

The Business of Weed is a weekly series brought to you by Jay Rosenthal, the Co-founder and President of Business of Cannabis to keep you up to date on all weed-related news. Here are this week’s biggest headlines.

Time (Magazine) for Cannabis
You know cannabis is going mainstream when Time Magazine dedicates an entire issue to the topic. On newsstands how through Canadian legalization week in October, Time’s cover and issue is all about weed – with features on the cannabis culture, a “how to use” guide and what the future holds in the US and Canada. Of special note to Canada – a deep dive into the company behind the Canadian grower Tilray who recently went public on NASDAQ.

Could’ve Been the Willie Nelson
Willie Nelson’s love affair with cannabis is well known. In fact, his name is a euphemism for pot. Look no further than the Tragically Hip’s lyrics in Bobcaygeon. Now, a Colorado-based company wants to bring Willie Nelson-branded pot products to the Canadian market. Soon, Canadians can smoke “Willie Nelson” Willie Nelson (while listening to Willie Nelson).

Best. Benefit. Ever.
You would have thought that giant Canadian cannabis companies would have covered medical cannabis for their employees, but you would have been wrong. That is, until now. The largest player in Canada – Aurora – announced this week that employees’ medical benefits will now include coverage of medical cannabis.

That’s all for this week! Check back next Friday for more.
