Bufala: New Pizza Hotspot Opens in Kerrisdale

Kerrisdale, one of Vancouver’s toniest neighbourhoods, is now home to the city’s newest pizzeria owned and operated by seasoned restaurateurs James Iranzad (who grew up in the hood) and Josh Pape. Both are the notable duo behind Vancouver’s award-winning Wildebeest restaurant and have recruited a talented team to help bring their newest dream to light.

The space is sleek, spacious and elegant, designed by Iranzad and Pape themselves. Located at 5395 West Boulevard, it’s perfectly positioned at a south-facing corner space (formerly home to The Mac Shack), and benefits from plenty of natural light and sunshine to simulate an authentic Italian al fresco dining experience we think you’ll be hooked on.

Checkerboard floors and hanging globe lamps complement a spacious open kitchen where you can have fun checking out all the foodie action. With 55 seats, break bread at Bufala’s 20-seat communal table or opt for a cozy banquette or bar seat and get ready to mingle with your dining neighbours.

Bufala’s culinary team is led by Lucas Earthy (La Pentola della Quercia and Les Faux Bourgeois) and Wildebeest’s Graham Marceau (who knows a thing or two about pizza thanks to Pizzeria Farina). Together they’ve created a list of options with classics like the Margherita complementing playful originals like the Oxtail (braised oxtail, kale, parsley and spicy peppers) and a daily feature pizza using seasonal ingredients.

Adding to this, a tantalizing selection of starters and sides round out the menu with offerings like fresh burrata with veal tongue, Humboldt squid with eggplant caponata, picked mustard seed and charred scallion, Calabrian sausage and watercress; and kale Caesar salad with crispy ham, breadcrumbs, cured farm egg and grissini.

In keeping things local in flavour, it doesn’t get much more local than the fact that Bufala sources its flour from Saanichton Farm on Vancouver Island, where co-owner Pape’s family produces a portion of the wheat.

Bufala also offers a well-rounded selection of classic Italian and contemporary cocktails, along with craft beers and a carefully chosen by the glass wine list.

Bufala is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week from 11:30am to 10pm, and has future plans for brunch on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 604-267-7499.
