Beloved Belly Buster Submarines to Open King St. Location in June

Any young professional (YP) who grew up in North Toronto has fond, nostalgic memories of The Belly Buster Submarines, or Belly’s. Known for their unmatched sandwiches, the original location at 3447 Yonge St. (just south of York Mills) was an after-school hangout spot, date night venue of choice with your high school sweetheart, and immediate go-to when home for the holidays from university. Well, we have good news for you: now that we’ve all moved downtown, and nearly 40 years after opening the original location, The Belly Buster Submarines is set to open a second Toronto location at 389 King St. W. next month.

Entrepreneurs and partners Jian and Page Magen, along with Michael Kimel, will launch the new sandwich shop in collaboration with Christopher Passilidis, the current owner of the brand. Located right in the downtown core, the new location will offer quick service (and is open until 3:30am both precious nights of the weekend) and the same authentic subs that have made the brand so legendary.

My partners and I are born and bred Toronto guys. We love this city and are proud to be part of its growth,” said Jian Magen. “We grew up on The Belly Buster and love and respect that for 40 years, the brand has stayed true to its roots. We’re excited to expose The Belly Buster to a new clientele, especially via the catering and event division, while maintaining the integrity and quality of the company Chris and Armiz [one of the original owners] built, and continue to keep relevant.”

The new King Street location will feature seating for 16 in a 600-square foot space, complete with a front patio, and will serve the brand’s signature subs, like the crowd favourite turkey bacon, as well as meatball, cheese steak, chicken and, of course, the “Belly Buster” (cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, salami, roast beef, mushrooms and gravy). New features also include the introduction of salads (not that we’d be opting for those when a late night craving strikes). The new location will also offer catering for all events – corporate, late-night weddings, office lunches, birthdays, company picnics and gatherings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and more.

The Belly Busters will eventually expand to Thornhill, London and Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood, allowing those of us who grew up with the brand to conveniently grab our favourite subs without having to venture to the original location.

The Belly Buster Submarines King St. location will be open Sunday to Wednesday from 11am to midnight and Thursday to Saturday from 11 am to 3:30 am.
