Belgo Brasserie

Want to grab a pint and have something better to snack on than the usual deep-fried pub fare? Calgary’s Belgo Brasserie has an extensive list of beers to get you through the night, as well as an irresistible menu.

Belgo Brasserie serves up French favourites including Moules & Frites, Baked Brie and a Charcuterie Board for Two. However, this 8th Ave hangout has more interesting specialties. The Thai Curried Lobster is the usual seafood combination of rock lobster, mussels, clams and scallions but set in a surprising lemongrass coconut curry broth. Another offering in the seafood category is the Seafood Tower, which groups half a pound of crab, half a lobster, two scallops, five prawns, three oysters, mussels, clams with watercress aioli, ginger cocktail sauce and lemon. If you’re going to order the Seafood Tower, prepare to bring a big appetite or a friend.

The beer menu has an obvious bias towards Belgian beers, but Belgo Brasserie prides itself on offering beers from all over the world, including some ones that may become increasing hard to pronounce after you’ve enjoyed one or two. Not to be outdone, Belgo also has a four page wine line that is as robust as the reds it features with a huge amount of varietals and vintages offered at a range of price points. While most wines are sold by the bottle, a few house selects are offered by the glass. Within walking distance of most downtown offices, Belgo is the perfect after-work stop for busy Calgary professionals. If you’re interested in bringing a large group, having an office party or enjoying some high class fare while watching the Calgary Stampede, Belgo Brasserie offers special event bookings. For private dining events, Belgo will create a unique dining experience for you and your party of up to 364 seated guests, or for a group of up to 10 people, executive chef Shaun Desaulniers will prepare a five course meal paired with wine, beer or both.

Belgo Brasserie has established itself as a unique dining experience, and any one stopping by the restaurant will soon realize that its reputation is well deserved. Belgo Brasserie, 501 8th Ave SW, 403-265-6555.
