Beating Monday in Toronto on September 22nd

It’s nothing to be ashamed about; just about everyone gets The Mondays. But here at the Notable lab, we’re on the cutting edge of a cure. With a little something for everyone, check out this week’s options for making the most out of your Monday in Toronto

Toronto has made great progress in the Sunday Funday department these past few years.

Between boozie brunches, taking proper advantage of Trinity Bellwoods, and a surge of cool new venues and mini-‘hoods, we’ve become experts at the art of taking the ‘end’ out of ‘weekend’. But then there’s that dirty “M” word. Nobody wants to hear it, let alone see it.

Well we don’t think that’s right. We’ve had about enough of being at the mercy of Mondays and think it’s about time we gave it the same kind of makeover that made Sundays the cool new kid in school.

Here are Notable’s 3 tips for beating Monday in Toronto this week:

Free Yoga – Open House @ Yoga Tree
It’s Monday, which means you’re going to have to take a few deep breaths anyway. So you might as well take them at the hottest new gargantuan yoga studio in the heart of the city – Yoga Tree at Bay and Dundas.

Nothing gets you in the invincible mood to take down a workweek like a good, healthy sweat. Spanning two floors and about 10,000 square feet, you can give salutations in one of the three spacious studios, bake in the sauna, or relax and refuel at Canada’s first Kombucha bar. Hitting up the opening of this YP-run studio will be great for your week, great for your mind, and at $0, really great for your wallet.

David Sax, Harold, Kumar, and a Burger – Bloor Takeover Series @ Bloor Hot Docs Cinema
Dude, on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being not so extreme and 10 being extremely extreme, I give this a 9.5!

The Bloor Hot Docs cinema is sparking a new series called Bloor Takeover, and right out of the gates they’re aiming high.

The series features “A prominent writer, artist, or personality…programming for a night, letting their imagination run wild” and tonight the stars are Toronto chef, Anthony Rose and Canadian Journalist and award-winning author, David Sax.

Along with a few others, the two will sit down and discuss their favorite films and midnight munchies, screen Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, and then courtesy Mr. Rose, serve up the perfect greasy little hamburger. Your $22 ($19 for Bloor members) also gets you popcorn and a cocktail. Hit this event and watch Monday vanish in a cloud of beef.

Buck-a-Shuck Oysters – The Emerson
On the heels of an expensive weekend & Sunday brunch, eating out on Monday night isn’t always the most palatable plan.

Enter: The Emerson and their Buck-a-Shuck Mondays.

Not only does this place always have a great vibe, great drinks, and great food, but on Mondays they also throw down a great deal too – letting you get selfish with the shellfish. If you can, get there early-ish ‘cause, due to popularity, supplies have been known to run out. If you don’t know how many oysters you can eat in one sitting, we think tonight is the Monday to find out.
