It’s nothing to be ashamed about; just about everyone gets The Mondays. But here at the Notable lab, we’re on the cutting edge of a cure. With a little something for everyone, check out this week’s options for making the most out of your Monday in Toronto

Toronto has made great progress in the Sunday Funday department these past few years.

Between boozie brunches, taking proper advantage of Trinity Bellwoods, and a surge of cool new venues and mini-‘hoods, we’ve become experts at the art of taking the ‘end’ out of ‘weekend’.

But then there’s that dirty “M” word. Nobody wants to hear it, let alone see it. Well we just don’t think that’s right. We’ve had about enough of being at the mercy of Mondays and think it’s about time we gave it the same kind of makeover that made Sundays the cool new kid in school.

Here are Notable’s 3 tips for beating Monday in Toronto this week:

Toronto Beer Week – Free Sausage @ The Monarch Tavern
In case you weren’t aware, we’re right in the middle of an awesome craft beer festival. It doesn’t quite have the slurry allure of the Toronto Festival of Beer, but it’s a great opportunity to discover a lot of new flavors with a lot of people that really, really love beer. It’s 9 days, 35 craft breweries, 70 venues and hundreds of events. If you missed the River Gambler cruise on Saturday, not to worry; between 5:30 and 8pm tonight it’s Hoppy Hour at the Monarch Tavern—which means if you buy a pint of one of their 16 local craft beers, you get a free sausage. Our apologies to the vegetarians out there. But we’re pretty sure there’s no meat in beer, right?

The War On Drugs – Live Show at The Phoenix Concert Theater
Despite recent botanical developments in Colorado and Washington State, The War on Drugs is taking off. This 4-piece from Philadelphia made some waves with their initial LP in 2008, Wagonwheel Blues, released with the Indiana-based record label called, Secretly Canadian – which is obviously why we love them most. Since then, the band’s popularity has been growing steadily and their latest album, Lost in the Dream, debuted at #26 on the Billboard 200 and has been a huge hit with fans and critics alike. They’re a unique, thoughtful bunch of musicians and The Phoenix is a great venue. Make your Monday a loud one and try to snag a few tickets to this show.

The Big Transit Mayoral Debate of 2014 – Debate at Ryerson University
Just about anything that has to do with being the Mayor of Toronto is a recipe for intrigue and entertainment – the city’s fragile public transit situation is no exception. According to a recent poll, about 60% of people would vote for the mayor with the best transit plan, so this debate will get real interesting real fast. As much as squawking politicians can sometimes drive the most Zen of us to the brink of insanity, this is probably one Mayoral-quarrel you don’t want to miss. It might be full, so getting a seat could be an issue…isn’t irony just swell?
