Beating Monday in Toronto on October 20th

Toronto has made great progress in the Sunday Funday department these past few years.

Between boozie brunches, taking proper advantage of Trinity Bellwoods, and a surge of cool new venues and mini-‘hoods, we’ve become experts at the art of taking the ‘end’ out of ‘weekend’. But then there’s that dirty “M” word. Nobody wants to hear it, let alone see it.

Well, we just don’t think that’s right. We’ve had enough of being at the mercy of Mondays and think it’s about time we gave it the same kind of makeover that made Sundays the cool new kid in school.

Here are Notable’s three tips for beating Monday in Toronto this week:

Michelangelo: Quest For Genius @ The AGO
Since Saturday, there’s been a new exhibit at the AGO and it features the work of someone you may have heard of; Michelangelo. No, not the Ninja Turtle – think: Statue of David and Sistine Chapel. (Ya, he was kind of a big deal.) Quest for Genius centres on a selection of 29 rare drawings that tell the story of Michelangelo’s own frustrations with the creative process. The pieces include both preliminary drawings and highly finished presentation drawings; all of which represent the range of his work, talent, and emotion during his time as a Renaissance master. So step away from your computers and smartphones; it’s time to see what genius looks like with just paper and a pencil. Cowabunga…

Seinfeld Trivia Night @ The Beaver
There are a lot of people that fancy themselves a Seinfeld fan. Well, now’s your time to prove it. For $5 a head, with four people to a team, you get all-you-can-eat pretzels and junior mints and the opportunity to win character trophies and TV show t-shirts. All you have to do is show off your extensive knowledge of one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 90s. Everything gets going at 7pm and the quiz runs for about two hours. “The cat – mreeeaaaoooowwww! – is out of the bag!” And so is The Beaver…

Sushi & Wine @ ND Sushi
Sushi is great on a Monday night. It’s even better when you can bring your own wine and not pay a cent for it. That’s right, folks – not only does ND Sushi have a great menu with great quality Japanese fare, but on Monday nights they don’t charge a corking fee. So if you’ve got a pesky case of the Mondays and a spare bottle of vino, head out for some sushi on Baldwin. And if you don’t make it this week, you can in go in the upcoming weeks and snag the chef’s tasting menu as long as you reserve your table at least one day prior. Eat it, Monday.
