Beating Monday in Toronto on November 3rd

Toronto’s made great progress in the Sunday Funday department these past few years.

Between boozie brunches, taking proper advantage of Trinity Bellwoods, and a surge of cool new venues and mini-‘hoods, we’ve become experts at the art of taking the ‘end’ out of ‘weekend’. But then there’s that dirty “M” word. Nobody wants to hear it, let alone see it.

Well, we just don’t think that’s right. We’ve had about enough of being at the mercy of Mondays and think it’s about time we gave it the same kind of makeover that made Sundays the cool new kid in school.

Here are Notable’s 3 tips for beating Monday in Toronto this week:

Stanley Kubrick Exhibition @ TIFF Lightbox
“Oh, bliss! Bliss and heaven!”

In case you didn’t know, Stanley Kubrick has made some of the best films evah. Evah, evah? Yes, evah, evah. While Kubrick himself has only gone home with one, seven of his films were nominated for an Academy Award, including mind-blowing classics like Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, and Full Metal Jacket. Just opened this past Friday, the exhibition features rare photographs and letters, original props and costumes, screenplays, production materials, and cameras used throughout his career. You’ll also learn about his two unfinished projects, Napoleon and The Aryan Papers, and get to check out his early documentary shorts as well as his photography work as a photojournalist for Look Magazine in the ‘40s.

Prezzo Fisso and No Corkage @ The Local Kitchen & Wine Bar
For many of us, the first thing we want to do after work on Monday is drink and the last thing we want to do is think. Enter: The Local Kitchen Wine Bar. For only $40, they offer a four-course fixed price menu and a $0 dollar corkage fee. That’s right, zero. Or if you’re going to say it properly at an Italian restaurant, “niente.” It’s cozy, delicious, and well-priced – what more do you want for a Monday night?

Work Off the Halloween Candy
Woah, woah, woah. We are not saying you look fat. You’re just, you know… a little bloated. And that’s totally understandable. While we may be all grown up now, who doesn’t pounce on the nostalgic opportunity to scarf some of our favorite Halloween treats from when we were kids and buy a few extra bags of candy that we never intended to actually hand out to anyone, especially some kid we don’t know who thinks they deserve an Oh Henry! and a Snickers just because they UHU Stic’d a bed sheet to their shoulders and pronounced it, “Twick o’ Tweet,” as if we can’t see right through that scam. You’re six, kid – we know you can pronounce Rs. WHOSE KIDS ARE THESE ANYWAY AND WHY ARE THEY TAKING OUR CANDY?! Sorry. We’re sorry. Sometimes, the sugar… you know? Anyway, the point is, you had your candy binge and now you might as well double up by burning off some Monday anxiety and some calories. Go for a long stroll, do some sit-ups, hit a yoga class, or just take the stairs everywhere. We all had the chance to do something scary to our bodies; now it’s time to do something healthy. After all, Holiday season is only a few weeks away…
