Baltimore Woman with ‘Relentlessly Gay’ Yard Raises Over $34,000 to Make Her Yard Even ‘Gayer’

For all the positive moves in the LGBTQ community as of late, there are still some people who aren’t happy about overt displays of pride or support.

Earlier this week, news broke of a widowed Baltimore mother of four whose front lawn was apparently too “relentlessly gay” for a certain neighbour. The said neighbour left a note to express such opinions.

“Your yard is becoming Relentlessly Gay! Myself and Others in the neighborhood ask that you Tone It Down. This is a Christian area and there are Children. Keep it up and I will be Forced to call the Police on You! Your kind need to have Respect for GOD. – A Concerned Home Owner.”

Yes, the random capitalization drives us a little crazy too.

Anyway, instead of toning down her decorating choices – which includes a set of rainbow jar solar lights that spell out “Love” and “Ohana” – Julie Baker decided to add even more rainbows to her lawn.

After the story made international headlines, Baker took to the crowdfunding website GoFundMe in an attempt to add even more rainbows to her yard:

Needless to say… I need more rainbows… Many, many more rainbows….

So, I am starting this fundraiser so I can work to make my Home even More “relentlessly gay” If we go high enough, I will see if I can get a Rainbow Roof!

Because my invisible relentlessly gay rainbow dragon should live up there in style!

So far, she’s raised over $34,000 in donations – a figure that’s way beyond the $5,000 she had initially requested, and one that will buy her a lot of rainbows.

For the record, Baker herself isn’t gay – but she sure is a proud supporter.
